Supporting Local Agriculture

Bernard Matthews Farms has had a strong tradition in farming for over 55 years and we recognise the responsibility we have in supporting local agriculture. As such, we support all initiatives which develop and enhance the industry we operate within:

  • We own 56 turkey farms located across Norfolk, Suffolk and Lincolnshire, where we rear Norfolk Whites, Norfolk Blacks and Bronzes including indoor housed and free range turkeys

  • 100% of our turkeys are from our own farms, with 99% hatched from eggs at our hatchery in Great Witchingham Norfolk. The remaining 1% of our turkeys are specialist breeds which we source from suppliers here in the UK and France

  • We have a dedicated Agricultural team of over 300 employees, and our enthusiastic farmers have, on average, over 23 years of service with the company, showing their dedication, passion and expertise in farming

  • 100% of the wheat fed to our turkeys, which are on a strictly vegetarian diet, is grown locally in East Anglia ensuring that we not only keep food miles to a minimum, but support the local agricultural industry

"As a family owned business, we have been proud to supply Bernard Matthews Farms with our locally grown wheat for over three decades, and are pleased to see a top UK brand continuing to support local British agriculture"

Jeremy Mason, Farmer from Sporle

  • We attend and support local agricultural shows and organisations such as the Royal Norfolk Society (RNS), including annual sponsorship at The Norfolk Show, the largest agricultural show in East Anglia. We also attend local farmer's club events and support farming organisations such as the Young Farmers Club (YFC) through donations and also event attendance.

  • Working in a Joint Initiative with Easton Agricultural College, we provide farmer expertise and financial help to deliver agricultural and food manufacturing training programmes to students, including specific resource in the development of poultry husbandry skills.
