who works in our Agricultural Team, gives an overview of our farming in operation
at Bernard Matthews' Farms. ![]() "Making sure that our turkeys are
happy and well cared for is central to my role at Bernard Matthews Farms. Just like all
our Bernard Matthews farmers, who rear and care for our indoor and free range birds
across 56 farms in Norfolk, Suffolk and Lincolnshire, I'm proud and passionate about
what we do.
I'm also proud that our farms have very high welfare standards. We're
Quality British Turkey (QBT)
and Assured Food Standards (Red Tractor)
certified and are
Freedom Foods accredited
for free range turkeys we
produce for Christmas, for a number of major UK retailers. We also work
constantly with independent welfare organisations to look at new and
even better standards for our indoor reared turkeys. All this is great
news for the turkeys and ultimately means we can guarantee to provide
the highest quality, tastiest meat.
As a company we've been dedicated to turkey farming for over 55 years - farming
is very much at the heart of the business, as is British-ness. Nearly all our eggs are laid by turkeys from our very own breeder flocks in Norfolk,
and hatched at our own hatchery in Great Witchingham. The remaining 1% of our turkeys
are specialist breeds, such as Bronze Turkeys, which come from other carefully chosen
suppliers in the UK. There is also the fact that all the turkeys we rear are fed
on a cereal-based diet, containing wheat grown locally in East Anglia, which all means
we can offer excellent farm-to-fork traceability. " Find our more about our farming and the welfare of our
