Turkey Nutrition

Turkey breast meat is a delicious source of lean protein and has one of the lowest fat contents of meat generally available in the supermarket. In fact, it is extremely low in saturated fat, even when compared to other 'healthy' meats:

Meat (3oz) Calories Protein Saturated Fat
95% lean ground beef 145 22g 2.4g
Chicken (skinless white meat) 140 26g 0.85g
Turkey (skinless white meat) 115 26g 0.2g

This table shows how turkey compares across a broader range of meats:

Skinless turkey breast is the only meat to have been recognised as a 'Superfood'. Dr Stephen Pratt's best-selling book 'Superfoods - 14 foods that will change your life' includes it in an exclusive group of 14 'Superfoods' alongside foods such as blueberries, wild salmon and broccoli. He recommends eating three to four 100-gram servings a week to get the greatest benefits from this low-fat, high-protein meat.

Our labelling

We have recently introduced new information on our packaging, putting you in control of choosing what products suit your needs and helping you to choose a healthy, balanced diet.

  • Clear Guideline Daily Amounts (GDAs) now appear on the front of packs, which show the percentage per serving/by weight (in grams) of the GDA for fat, saturated fat, sugar, salt, and calories. These appear as egg-shaped symbols across the bottom of every pack.

  • There is now a colour-coded 'traffic-light' system, to make choosing food for a balanced diet easier (as recommended by the Food Standards Agency).

  • Clear symbols highlight key messages about some of our products, messages we know are important to you, such as 'Low in Fat', '100% Breast Meat' and 'No artificial Colours, Preservatives or Flavours'.

  • All new Bernard Matthews Farms packaging carries a country of origin statement*. This clearly states the provenance of the meat, which we believe to be more informative for you than the current practice of only stating where the meat is packed.

*(a small number of products are still in the market in old packaging without a country of origin statement)
